We can rent 3G SIM cards (or cell phones) from the Softbank counters e.g. at Narita and Haneda Airport, and Tokyo Station, for something like 105 yen a day.
However, for whatever reason, they have separate SIM cards for iPhones with different conditions: e.g. the iPhone data plan is capped at 1500 yen a day while the normal 3G ones aren't!
At airport counters we can book these on-line, while at other shops e.g. at Tokyo Station, we cannot book in advance.

I would really like to attend a Noh performance. What is best: to pick a regular performance (https://ticket1.ntj.jac.go.jp/Play?koencode=40111092) or a dissemination performance (https://ticket1.ntj.jac.go.jp/Play?koencode=40311091)?
Also, my partner will be joining me. Is it possible to pay separately for extra guests at the Tuesday banquet?
Take the Narita Express (http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/nex/, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narita_Express). The combined N'Ex+Suica (local transport) card is a good deal. A taxi will be prohibitively expensive, unless perhaps there are enough of you to fill it, and it will surely be slower.
An alternative to Softbank 3G SIM may be http://www.pupuru.com/en/service/emobile/ (it looks good, though I myself have never used it and cannot make any responsible guarantee).
Taking a cab from Narita Airport to Tokyo Center City is unrealistic (_way_ too expensive and slower than trains), while it is convenient from Tokyo Station (and perhaps from Haneda Airport and Ueno Station, though a little more expensive). Google Map helps to estimate the time and distance (which are almost proportional to the cost of a taxi).
Printing shops capable to handle posters: (Web pages all in Japanese Phone numbers in Tokyo begins with 03-)
FedEx Kinko's Jimbocho 2-Chome shop (open through holidays) http://www.kinkos.co.jp/store/t038.html
Tokyo Lithmatic Kudan shop (near Tokyo Metro Shinjuku line Kudan-shita station) http://www.lithmatic.net/lithApService/index_shop.php?pg=detail&shop_id=16 (open through holidays)
HND -> Jimbocho: HND -> Shinagawa (keikyu) Shinagawa -> Mita (Tokyo Metro Asakusa Line, connected from Keikyu) Mita -> Jimbocho (Tokyo Metro Mita Line) (Exit A9 I remember...) Approx. 1 hour.
I can recommend the food court in the basement of Mitsukoshi department store, if you want to buy some fancy edible presents. Two stops east on hanzomon line from jinbocho.
Thank you very much Yamamoto san. Depending on the typhoon movement, I will plan to remain the conference room opened until around 21:00 (this is the limit of conference room reservation and operating hours). I will make an announcement at the conference as well.

I encountered with Ukiyo-e catalogs by chance at this shop near Jinbocho Sta.:

One book is 300 yen, and includes many small Ukiyo-e pictures.
It might be interesting as a souvenir.

ReplyDeleteYes, please buy the tickets at the registration desk.
Is there a recommended way of reaching the conference area from airports like Narita and Haneda?
ReplyDeleteWould a Taxi be reasonable, or should we take the train?
